Apple Snicker Salad Recipe! Ultimate Guide

Apple Snicker Salad is a sweet treat, filled with texture and flavor! Bright pops of apple perfectly complement chewy chunks of Snickers.

Apple Snicker Salad

It may be called a salad, but this Snickers Salad is a dessert. It’s similar to our best-loved Ambrosia Salad or Pistachio Salad.

EVERYONE LOVES IT!

It’s not as healthy as a green salad, but I can promise you this Snickers Salad tastes a lot better!

Why we love it:

  • It’s a Dessert. It’s called salad, but it’s truly a dessert and we aren’t complaining.
  • Like a Caramel Apple. If you love those, you’ll love them!
  • Great for Outings. Everyone goes nuts for this at potlucks, family get-togethers, BBQs in the summer, or even celebrating caramel apple weather in the fall.
  • Can be Made Ahead. Make this up to 1 day ahead of time.

Apple Snicker Salad Ingredients

  • Vanilla instant pudding – Be sure to buy INSTANT vanilla pudding mix. Also note that when you combine the dry pudding mix with the ½ cup of milk, it will resemble more of a paste texture, rather than a soft pudding mixture.
  • Cook-n-serve pudding will not be set when made using the recipe instructions, so do not use it – it will make the salad more runny.
  • Milk – We suggest using whole or 2% milk for this recipe.
  • Cool Whip – We prefer homemade whipped cream, but Cool Whip works great and is easy.
  • Granny Smith apples – See below for other apples to use
  • Snickers bars
  • Caramel sauce – Homemade or from the bottle.

A Salad With Many Names

I grew up calling this Caramel Apple Salad but it turns out this salad has lots of different names. You may know it by Candy Salad, Snicker Apple Salad, or just plain ole’ Snickers Salad.

No matter what you call it, there is absolutely no denying this combination of caramel, chocolate, vanilla, and tart Granny Smith apples is a winner.

How To Make Apple Snicker Salad ?

This Snicker Apple Salad is as easy as it gets! It’s a matter of making up the pudding and chopping the apples and Snickers. Let’s take a quick look:

  1. Make a pudding mixture. In a large bowl, whisk together the vanilla pudding and milk and smooth and creamy. Fold in the whipped topping (Cool Whip) or whipped cream.
  2. Prep apples and Snickers. Core and chop all but one of the apples. Toss with lemon juice or 7-Up if making this salad in advance. Pat dry. Chop all but one Snickers into bite-sized pieces.
  3. Add remaining ingredients. Fold in the chopped apples and Snickers. Cover and refrigerate until ready to serve.
  4. Enjoy! Top with remaining apple and Snickers and drizzle with caramel sauce if desired.

Variations To Try

This easy dessert salad is amazing as written but feel free to explore some of these tasty variations to mix things up:

  • try different flavored puddings – butterscotch, caramel, French vanilla, chocolate – all are delicious in this apple salad!
  • try a different candy bar – Snickers are amazing but there are so many great options out there: Rolos, Twix, Milky Way, 3 Musketeers. This is a great salad to pull together with leftover Halloween candy!
  • sauce flavor – switch out the caramel sauce with butterscotch or another sauce flavor.
  • add more fruit – try grapes strawberries or even bananas!

Recipe Variations

  • Toss in more fruit: Fold grapes, blueberries, or chopped strawberries into the mixture for extra sweetness and color.
  • Use a different candy bar: If you’d like a softer candy bar, swap out Snickers for 3 Musketeers or Milky Way. Alternatively, Kit Kats will add a pleasant crunch. Twix also adds texture while still providing a caramel flavor similar to that of Snickers.
  • Swap in a different pudding mix: Personalize this Snickers salad recipe with a different instant pudding mix. Butterscotch, chocolate, white chocolate and caramel would all work well here.
  • Add toppings: For a pretty presentation and a bit of extra crunch, sprinkle chopped peanuts or mini chocolate chips over the top. You could also use more apples or Snickers pieces.
  • Finish with a sauce: Send this Snickers salad recipe fully into the dessert category by drizzling chocolate sauce or salted caramel sauce on top.

Apple Snicker Salad of FAQs

Can this salad be made in advance?

Yes, you can but you will need to treat the apples so they don’t oxidize and brown. You can do this by tossing it with fresh lemon juice before adding it to the salad and then patting it dry. Other options include soaking in ginger ale or 7up for several minutes and then patting dry. If the apples are treated, this salad will be good for a couple of days in the fridge.

Can this recipe be doubled?

Absolutely! If you’re making this candy salad for a large group, feel free to double-triple, whatever you need.

What apples should I use?

I use Granny Smith apples because I like the tartness but if you prefer sweeter apples, look for Galas, Honeycrisp, Fuji, or Pink Lady. There is no wrong apple to use in this recipe so feel free to use whatever variety you have on hand.

Which apples should I use for Snickers salad?

Use Granny Smiths or other crisp, tart types of apples to balance the sweetness. Avoid softer apples like McIntoshes.

Why is my Apple Snickers salad runny?

If you don’t use the right pudding mix or don’t whisk it long enough, the filling might be thin. Make sure you’re buying instant pudding mix and not cook-and-serve pudding mix, and whisk it vigorously with the milk for the entire two minutes until the pudding is thickened.

Notes

Notes

Make it ahead of time. Make this Snicker salad recipe up to a day in advance. The coating of the Whipped Cream will help keep the apples from browning, but to be extra cautious, pretreat the apples (with previous suggestions), before mixing up the recipe.

STORE. Keep leftover Snicker apple salad covered, in the fridge, for 2-3 days. Over time, the extra moisture from the apples will begin causing the whipped cream to separate. It is still safe to eat. Give it a good stir or add a bit extra whipped cream to help smooth it out.
