Boxed Yellow cake mix, instant vanilla pudding, wine, and a butter glaze make up this outrageously decadent Crack Cake recipe. This cake should come with a warning–you won’t be able to put your fork down!

What Is a Crack Cake?

It is a cake that is addicting like Crack supposedly is! I wouldn’t know about the real Crack but this cake I can vouch for is addicting.

It starts with a box of yellow cake mix that has a few add-ins to create an extra delicious cake, then once the cake is baked it’s poked all over for a wine-sugar-butter glaze. Wow. Cold, room temperature, or warm this cake is a winner.

Why You’ll Love This Crack Cake

Ok, I will level with you about this Crack Cake Recipe. It’s legitimately the most delicious cake I have ever eaten.

  • This cake is as addictive as the name suggests. Nothing is redeeming about it, it is unapologetically rich, sugary, and decadent. Oh, and did I mention it’s baked and soaked in wine? This cake is so moist, light-textured, and incredibly fluffy.
  • The cake has a lovely amount of sweetness and terrific flavor. The added salt, the dryness of the wine, and the warmth of the cinnamon help to cut and balance all the richness.
  • This cake is perfect for a special occasion or potluck–it’s portable, great made ahead, and easy to slice!

How do you make Crack Cake?

So basically this is a doctored-up cake mix, hello so easy and quick! Another doctored cake mix recipe I love is my Salted Caramel Red Velvet Cupcakes.

Let’s start by preheating the oven. If your oven is not to the correct temperature the cake may not turn out properly, so ensure you let the oven fully preheat.

Set the oven temperature to 350F/180C and spray a 10-cup Bundt Pan with nonstick cooking spray, set the baking pan aside.

How long does Crack Cake Recipe last?

This crack cake recipe will last 3-4 days. If you live in a warm climate as I do here in California I would suggest storing the cake in the fridge in an airtight container. Otherwise, mold may very well start growing on the cake quickly. The moisture in the cake and a warm environment is not a good combination!

Top Tips

  • Pour the butter glaze over the cake while the cake is still nice and hot.
  • Don’t overbake the cake.
  • Serve with fresh fruit and whipped cream!
  • Place any leftovers in an air-tight container and store them at room temperature.
