Well, sometimes yes sometimes No.
As classic salad does not have eggs in it, but during my Hawaii trip I noticed some dishes have eggs in it as Macaroni salad with boiled eggs.
You can make this Macaroni Salad in advance for up to 3 days, follow my complete recipe instructions and let it sit in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days before serving.

- Macaronic- Classic Hawaiian salad is made with Elbow macaroni, but you can prep it with others as you prefer.
- Carrots- Grated Carrots
- Yellow Onions- You can also use ½ Tbsp of onion powder to replace yellow onion.
- Apple Cider Vinegar
- Mayonnaise
- Milk
- Sugar
- Salt
- Black pepper (Ground)
What can be used instead?
Boiled eggs (chopped), or chopped pickles can be used in this recipe, you can replace yellow onions with onion powder, and you can use any macaroni such as farfalle or cavatappi pasta.
How to make the Best Hawaiian Macaroni Salad
This Hawaiian macaroni salad recipe is made with cooked mac.
That is combined with yellow onions, grated carrots, and apple vinegar juice, always try to grate your carrots, or store brought bag of grated carrots can be used always.
After, the Pasta and veggie combination is made with homemade mayonnaise, milk, sugar, salt, and pepper.
I’ll suggest using whole milk for the mixture but you can use any milk you like or have on hand.

Can I Freeze this, Salad?
Yes, you can freeze it. Just place the prepared macaroni salad in the freezer in an airtight container or Zip lock bag, when you want to serve just put it in the fridge for 4-5 hours before you want to eat it.
Do I need to prepare instant vanilla mix before adding it?
No, it is combined with milk and yogurt and it’s in powder form, so do not prepare pudding mix.
How to store Hawaiian Macaroni Salad?
Store leftovers in an airtight container, I used plastic wrap to cover this, please store them in cool room temperature for up to 2-3 days, after that, they will become hard.

Hawaiian Macaroni Salad
Equipment
- Large mixing bowl
- Large pot
Ingredients
- 1 pound elbow macaroni
- 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
- 2 carrots grated
- ¼ cup yellow grated onion or ½tbsp onion powder
- 1/3 cup whole milk
- 3 cups mayonnaise
- Salt to taste
- Ground black pepper to taste
Instructions
- Boil salted water in a large pot then add elbow macaroni and cook as mentioned in the box until it became soft, it should take about 10minutes.
- When macaroni is cooked well, soak its water and transfer it into a mixing bowl, add apple cider vinegar, carrots, and onions (while it's hot). Try not to smash this mixture and combine them well. Then cool it for 20-30 minutes.
- Combine mayonnaise, milk, sugar, salt, and pepper to taste while the macaroni is cooling.
- Topping dressing over cooled Mac. And combine properly, taste the salt and pepper, and adjust to your taste.
- Cover this and let it sit in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes to absorb the dressing and enhance its flavor.
- Before serving, if the dressing looks dry just add a little milk and make it creamy as you like. Enjoy!
Notes
- Use homemade mayonnaise, it will make the dressing thick.
- It’s a great meal to make ahead of time, as it can be stored in refrigerators for up to 3 days, make sure to mix everything before serving.
- Add 2 cups of chopped chicken if you want this salad into more of a main dish meal.
